NEWYORK -- Berdasarkan perkembangan terbaru, beberapa negara kunci memberi suara untuk Palestina. Sehingga, dua per tiga anggota Majelis Umum PBB dipastikan akan memberikan suara setuju untuk status baru Palestina di PBB.

Artinya, Palestina dipastikan akan memenangkan suara dan akan meraih status baru dari non-member menjadi observer state dalam keanggotaan PBB. Warga Palestina memprediksi suara PBB pada 29 November mendatang akan mendukung negara mereka. Tanggal tersebut disiapkan menjadi tanggal yang begitu bersejarah bagi pengakuan kemerdekaan Palestina di PBB.

Mengingat status baru tersebut akan berdampak pada diakuinya entinitas negara Palestina. Tanggal 29 November pun merupakan Hari Internasional Solidaritas Rakyat Palestina yang dicanangkan PBB. Tanggal 29 November pula, PBB memberikan pembagian Palestina dan membentuk Israel.

Majelis Umum PBB dengan anggota 193 negara didominasi olaeh negara yang bersimpati terhadap perjuangan Palestina. Sementara resolusi hanya membutuhkan suara mayoritas dari mereka. Hingga saat ini, 132 anggota telah mengakui negara Palestina.

Dengan pengakuan PBB, Palestina akan mendapat klaim atas wilayah Tepi Barat, Jalur Gaza dan Yerussalem Timur. Ketiga wilayah tersebut diambil alih Israel dalam Perang Timur Tengah tahun 1967. Namun Israel telah menarik diri dari Gaza pada tahun 2005.
